kungfu panda 3

In the new trailer for upcoming "Kung Fu Panda 3," Jack Black's character Po comes across his long-lost biological father, Li, played by Bryan Cranston.
Only neither of them can figure out whom the other is, despite the striking resemblance.

"You lost your son?" Po asks. "Yes, many years ago," Li says.

There's a reason why Po is a Kung Fu master and not a brain surgeon.

Po's martial arts colleagues Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), and Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) all appear in the trailer. And -- big surprise -- the film also will feature a villain with extraordinary powers.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the film -- which cost $140 million -- will be the first from Oriental DreamWorks, a Shanghai-based venture with partners that include Shanghai Media Group and China Media Capital and Shanghai Media Group.

Which means it's officially a Chinese coproduction. Which means, with wide release and promotion in China, it has a pretty good chance of getting that $140 million back. And then some.

"Kung Fu Panda 3" lands in theaters Jan. 29.
